Where Does Texas Rank For a Typical Workers Comp Insurance Quote?

by | Oct 5, 2015 | Insurance

An Insurance Journal piece documented a typical Workers Comp Insurance Quote in every state in the country, and they found some intriguing results. Some come as little surprise. For example, California has the highest cost per employee for worker’s compensation coverage. States such as North Dakota and Arkansas rank very low, and it does not take a deep understanding of North Dakota to know why. Connecticut and New jersey are both very high as well, showing that the Northeast is not the place to be for viable worker’s comp coverage.

Yet, where does Texas rank when matched against the entire country? The report detailed that Texas is ranked in the bottom half of the more affordable portion of the United States. Texas came in at 36 in 2014, which means that there are 14 states which have average less costly worker’s compensation. It is worth noting that Texas is easily the most affordable out of all the large population states, far surpassing Florida, Virginia, and New York in average cost per employee.

Specifically, Texas has a typical cost of $1.61 per each employee. Comparably, a few states are equally ranked or very close. Texas is right next to Arizona’s $1.60 and Maryland’s $1.64 per employee. Texas did rank slightly worse in 2014 compared to 2012. The study reported that Texas was ranked the 38th most affordable per employee in 2012, compared to 36 in 2014. It is a very marginal difference. Some speculate that the large influx of people moving to major cities such as Austin and Dallas has forced this change. It is worth noting, but hardly enough to make a major impact on a Workers Comp Insurance Quote in 2015 compared to the previous year.
